MY LIFE AS A FUGITIVE

Prologue

“I just wanted what was best for you…” The tears finally came down. She was sobbing so terribly. She pressed herself up against the wall. “Please, I just wanted things to be back to normal. You know like in the old days.”

I slapped her in the gut.

“Please Yen! Please stop this! I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” She was pissing me off. I couldn’t stand it any longer.

“Sorry! Sorry??! Is that all you can say?!? After you’ve ruined my love-life, broke my promise and then to put my career on the edge of failure? Sorry! How can you be sorry?”

“Please Yen! I didn’t mean it! He was no good!!! I swear! I’m your best friend! I would never-“

“My best friend?! I know we’ve been through good times together, but how do you DARE to call yourself my best friend after all the horrible things you’ve done to me?!?”

“I just wanted things to be normal! Yen, I’m sorry!!!”

“Sorry, sorry, sorry. I’m sorry Jennie, but sorry ain’t gonna cut it this time.” I started walking up to her with force.

She ducked down onto the ground until her head was in her knees. She was trembling hard.

“YEN! I’M SORRY! PLEASE!”

“After all these long years you’ve been on my back ruining my life, tearing away at my future piece by piece to get what you want. But this time I’m gonna settle this once and for all.” I pulled out the gun in the back pocket. She looked up with fear in her water-filled eyes. She gently closed them and smiled. I stopped where I was and looked at her.

“Why are you smiling?” I demanded. She laughed gently.

“Oh nothing, I just hope in time you’ll forgive me and understand why I did this. I’m sorry about Jin, Yen. I just thought-“

I didn’t let her finish. With just a pull of the trigger, she was dead in the matter of seconds. That’s when I became a fugitive.

Dark Circles

I quickly grabbed my keys and packed everything I could in my Pucca bag and I was off. I jumped into my Beetle and fled down the streets of my cold neighborhood. I tried not to rush so that I wouldn’t look suspicious. I let my long hair loose from the clip.

I keep thinking back and regretting what I just did. I shouldn’t have killed her. She wasn’t worth it. I felt like an idiot. I wish time machines would hurry up and be created. I wanted to change things.

I took a left at Marche Boulevard to find three police cars! Three of them!!! I couldn’t believe it. But I had to stay calm. I calmly drove down the street. When I was about to pass the last car a policeman came to my window. He gave me quite a shock being night and all and you usually don’t want people’s faces in front of your window. I stopped my car and rolled the window down.

“Anything wrong officer,” I asked in confusion.

“You aren’t wearing your seatbelt young lady. Fix that and let me see your license.” I quickly struggled to put my seatbelt and find my license.

“Hold on a minute.” The policeman took a call from his car. This gave me some seconds to breathe. When he came back he was still on the phone. I handed him my license.

“It was a girl you said?” the policeman examined the card. I inhaled hard. They were talking about me. The police man handed the card back. I quickly placed it back in my wallet and I was about to take of when…

“She took off in an orange Beetle?” My heart skipped a beat and then I fumbled for the pedal. The police man looked at the car and then thought for a minute and then yelled into the walkie-talkie. I mashed on the pedal.

“HEY COME BACK HERE!” the police man screamed. “Chief Police, this is Officer Mike, this is code red, I’ve found the murderer.” The policeman raced to his car and kept yelling at the my Beetle. Like I could hear him. I took a deep breath. My first high speed chase. This is just great. I just killed my friend, the police are after me and I have no where to run. I love life.
